Concept
I entered a global graphic design contest to create a poster based on the title, “Writing, the Origin of Civilization.” Originally, I wanted to make a cool photoshopped collage of multiple world attractions followed by flowing type. After several failed attempts, I decided to go in a different direction and focused on illustrating my thoughts. I sketched iconic monuments together tied by a pyramid of text made of different languages. The sentences are filled with words like, “communication, travel, education, art, etc.” At the bottom is the tip of pencil held by a hand. In this imagery, I wanted to project the importance of writing as a bridge of communication between cultures across the world. Although I didn’t win the contest, my poster was one of the 60 artworks out of 700 posters to be selected for their exhibition in Cypress, Greece. That’s pretty cool!
